Missouri Corrections Release Paths
No Missouri Department of Corrections adult institution was identified in Adair County. The statewide system still matters because an Adair County judgment can commit a person to MODOC. Delivery from the county detention center ends the local booking but begins or continues state custody. It must not be labeled community release.
A later prison departure may be parole, conditional release, another authorized event, or discharge. Parole and conditional release place the person in the community while MODOC legal custody or supervision continues. Final discharge ends the department's supervision. A transfer between institutions is not release.
| MODOC event | Custody meaning | Confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Institution transfer | Prison custody continues | Assigned location |
| Parole | Community supervision begins | Event and field office |
| Conditional release | Supervised sentence portion | Release event and sentence data |
| Discharge | MODOC supervision ends | Historical data or official record |
Search Missouri Offender Releases
The MODOC Offender Web Search is the official interactive route for people currently incarcerated or under department supervision. It is not the archive for a short Adair County jail stay that never became a state case. Search by DOC number when possible because names can match.
- Enter the DOC number, or use the accepted name fields.
- Compare all identifiers before selecting a result.
- Read the assigned place and determine whether it is an institution or field office.
- Review every sentence and preserve each date field's exact label.
- If the person is absent after discharge, use the historical file or a Sunshine request.
The official interface capture shows the name and DOC-number search point.

It demonstrates the route, not an individual release outcome.
MODOC Dates Need Labels
A minimum, maximum, conditional, or presumptive date is not automatically the day a person left prison. MODOC's published file defines Sentence Maximum Release Date as the maximum release or expiration day for a sentence. Sentence-I Minimum Release Date is a calculated minimum for the active sentence. The glossary describes a presumptive parole release date as tentative and dependent on conduct and an acceptable plan.
- Parole
- Board-authorized community supervision before sentence completion.
- Conditional release
- A statutory supervised portion of an eligible sentence.
- Presumptive date
- A tentative Board date subject to stated conditions.
- Discharge
- The end of MODOC supervision, not merely prison departure.
Read dates across all sentence rows. One completed count does not prove every sentence or supervision duty has ended. Case-specific restrictions, consecutive terms, detainers, program requirements, and Board action may change the apparent timeline.
Adair MODOC Historical Records
The interactive search focuses on active incarceration or supervision and can exclude fully discharged people. MODOC's Sunshine Law offender-data page describes a nightly historical file covering people who are or have been under department supervision, with data reaching back as early as 1974. Conversion and accuracy warnings apply.
The file can contain permanent DOC ID, name, assigned place, institution or field flag, court cause number, offense and sentence counties, sentence completion indicators, maximum and minimum release fields, probation details, and location information. It is charge-level data, so one person can have many rows. A historical match is a research lead; seek the official event record when exact release proof matters.

Adair Sentences Enter MODOC
The Adair County Circuit Court and Missouri Case.net provide the judgment and docket context for a state commitment. The county jail record shows when the sheriff transferred custody. MODOC shows the state phase. These records answer different parts of the same custody trail.
A court sentence does not establish the exact prison release day. Jail credit, statutory minimum terms, sentence structure, eligible conditional-release rules, Board action, conduct, program completion, and detainers can affect the result. No universal Missouri prison “good-time” formula was supported by the research, so a simple days-per-month estimate should not be used.
The Adair County release-record overview explains how to connect the county booking, court event, and state record without treating a transfer as freedom.
Missouri Supervision After Release
A field-office assignment means the person is in the community under MODOC supervision. It is not an institution address and not final discharge. For Adair County, District 3S–Kirksville at 516 S. Main is the local field office documented by MODOC. Ordinary county bond cases without a state supervision case are not assigned there.
Earned compliance credits concern eligible people already serving probation, parole, or conditional release. The statute can shorten community-supervision time after compliant months and other requirements. It does not reduce prison time or calculate departure from the Adair County jail. The difference is critical when interpreting an early discharge from supervision.
Request a MODOC Release Record
When public data is unclear, request the specific state event rather than a broad background file. Identify the person and DOC number, then ask for the release or discharge event, effective date, event type, assigned field office, supervision end date, and open offender record. For parole material, use the Parole Board custodian.
Missouri's public-data warning means an interactive result or nightly row should be checked when a precise legal date matters. A court docket can show the sentence but not every later corrections event. The department event record supplies the operational state-custody change.
Keep parole-board action separate from release processing. An eligibility date only shows that a case may be considered under applicable law. It does not promise approval. The Board may issue a later date or deny release. Institutional conduct, required programs, risk information, and a workable release plan can affect the outcome. Seek the decision notice and compare it with the later custody event.
Notification follows another channel. MODOC's Office of Victim Services can register eligible notices concerning hearings, results, release to the community, escape, and death. That service is distinct from a public offender lookup. A notice helps with timing, but the department record remains the formal source for status and effective date.
When a release plan places the person in Adair County, the assigned office may be District 3S–Kirksville, but the public field name should be checked on the current record. A planned residence does not itself prove that prison release occurred. Confirm the effective event first, then confirm the office responsible for community supervision. If no active result appears, use the historical file and a focused department request rather than assuming the sentence vanished.
Read Missouri Sentence Rows
The MODOC historical file is organized at the charge level, which means one DOC ID can appear on many rows. Start by grouping rows with the same permanent identifier. Then compare cause numbers, sentence county, offense descriptions, sentence dates, and the concurrent or consecutive indicator. A sentence-completed flag on one row answers only that row. It cannot establish that every count has ended or that community supervision is complete.
The assigned-place and institution-or-field fields help separate prison custody from community supervision. An institution assignment means the person remains in a corrections facility. A field assignment usually points to probation, parole, or conditional-release supervision. The local District 3S office can be relevant to an Adair County resident, but another district may be assigned based on the approved release plan. Do not force a Kirksville location merely because the original case came from Adair County.
Minimum and maximum fields also belong to individual sentences. Concurrent sentences generally run at the same time, while consecutive sentences run one after another, subject to the actual judgment and department calculation. The published bulk layout documents special numeric values for life, indeterminate or interstate cases, and certain field records. Those codes should be read through MODOC's layout rather than interpreted as ordinary calendar dates.
A state release can also be followed by a violation, revocation, new sentence, or later discharge. Record the effective date of each event in sequence. If the public file and interactive result appear to conflict, note their update dates and ask MODOC for the underlying event. The nightly file is broad and historically useful, but the department warns about conversions, self-reported information, completeness, and currency.
For an Adair County case, the court cause number is the strongest bridge back to Case.net. Compare the sentence and offense county, then read the judgment and later docket entries. The court explains the legal sentence; MODOC explains custody and supervision administration. Together they show more than either record alone, while still requiring a specific release or discharge event for final confirmation.
