Understanding Adair County Releases
A closed Adair County Detention Center booking does not always mean the person walked into the community. Bond, release on recognizance, time served, dismissal, probation, and completion of a local sentence can end detention. A transfer can also close the local booking while custody continues with the Missouri Department of Corrections, another jail, federal authorities, or immigration authorities. The release record should identify both the end of the Adair custody event and the destination.
The Adair County Sheriff's Office uses the term “detainee” and calls the building the Adair County Detention Center. That official wording helps separate the Missouri facility from similarly named jails elsewhere. The sheriff holds the county booking and custody-event records. The Second Judicial Circuit explains the legal action. MODOC, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, or ICE becomes relevant only when a transfer or case record points to that system.
| Release event | What it means | Next record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial custody ends, but the case remains open. | Adair release record and Case.net |
| Time served or sentence complete | The local confinement ends under the sentence. | Jail release entry and judgment |
| Probation | A court orders community supervision. | Case.net and the MODOC field office |
| State transfer | The county booking ends while MODOC custody begins. | MODOC Offender Web Search |
| Federal or ICE transfer | Custody may continue in another system. | BOP or ICE locator, as supported by the case |
Adair County Release Record Fields
A useful Adair County release record answers when the booking began, when it ended, who authorized the change, and where the person went. Request the related custody-event log when a summary lacks the destination. A booking photograph may help tie the record to the right intake, but an image alone proves neither current custody nor release.
The sheriff may redact juvenile identifiers, Social Security numbers, protected victim details, investigative material, security-sensitive facts, and other closed information. A requester can ask for the open remainder when part of a file is withheld. The fields below are useful record concepts to request, not a claim that every one appears on a single public form.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Full name and booking number | Connects the release to the correct Adair County booking. |
| Admission date and time | Marks the start of that custody event. |
| Release date and time | Shows when the sheriff closed local custody. |
| Release authority or type | May identify bond, court order, time served, dismissal, or transfer. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Distinguishes community release from continued custody elsewhere. |
| Charges and cause number | Links the jail event to the correct court docket. |
| Hold or detainer | May show why another authority could take custody. |
What does a roster disappearance show? It shows only that the person is not visible in that live source at that moment. It does not supply the release time, release reason, or destination.
Request Adair County Release Records
The Adair County sheriff records page prefers a written request. The official form can be mailed, faxed, delivered, or presented during administrative hours. Describe an existing record rather than asking staff to conduct research. Give the full name, approximate booking date, and a booking or case number when known.
- Ask for the booking and release record plus the custody-event log for the identified detention stay.
- Request admission time, release time, release type or authority, and the destination or receiving agency.
- Select “Booking Photo” separately if the intake image is needed to identify the booking.
- Ask for an electronic copy, an estimate, and the open portion of any partly closed record.
- Compare the response with the Adair County court case and any receiving custody system.
The published county form states $5 per record through 20 pages, then $5 plus ten cents for each later page. It gives the first 30 minutes of search at no charge and lists $8.33 per additional 30-minute period. Media, postage, outside copying, and needed technical work may add actual costs. The form lists check-based payment methods and may require a deposit for a broad search. Confirm the current amount before submitting because the form and state fee rules must be applied as they stand when the request is processed.
The office must act on the request as soon as possible and by the end of the third business day. That is not a promise of production within three days. If reasonable cause delays production, the coordinator should give an explanation and the earliest availability. A denial should cite its legal basis. The source image below comes from the sheriff's official records-request route.
The county page documents the proper fallback when no online Adair release list exists.

Adair Release Law and Retention
Missouri's Sunshine Law presumes that records of public bodies are open unless another law closes them. Chapter 610 supplies the general framework. Section 610.023 governs access and response mechanics, while section 610.024 requires separation of closed material from the open portion. Section 610.026 sets the statewide fee structure for ordinary copies, research, and specialized formats. The sheriff's local form should be read alongside those current rules.
The Missouri Secretary of State's sheriff schedule, series SHF 013, describes inmate files as including booking, confinement, admission, release, property, and transfer information. It sets a minimum of five years after release. General jail activity logs also have a five-year minimum. Retention is not the same as online display, and it does not make every retained detail public.
- Time served
- A court credits confinement toward the sentence and the ordered local term ends.
- Detainer
- A notice that another authority may seek custody when the current hold ends.
- Parole
- Board-authorized community release from prison while MODOC legal custody continues.
- Discharge
- The end of a corrections sentence or supervision obligation, depending on the record's exact wording.
Adair Bond Release Cases Continue
Missouri Rule 33.01 directs courts to consider the least restrictive release conditions and nonmonetary conditions before monetary bond when appropriate. Recognizance, reporting, supervision, monitoring, surety, cash, ten-percent, and property arrangements can appear. The form of release matters because each can impose different duties while the case proceeds.
In Adair County, bonding out changes custody status. It does not mean the charge was dismissed, the person was acquitted, or the sentence ended. Pair the sheriff's release entry with the Second Judicial Circuit or Kirksville municipal docket. The court record may show the bond type, posting, conditions, later hearings, warrant action, or final disposition, while the jail record provides the actual custody-event time.
Find Adair County Released Inmates
No official Adair County current-inmate roster, 24-hour release list, 72-hour release list, or released-booking archive was verified on the sheriff's navigation. Start with affirmative county records, then follow the case into the right system. Do not substitute a commercial page or a roster for a different Adair County.
- Call the detention control room at (660) 665-4644 extension 1 and ask whether the identified booking ended by community release or transfer.
- Submit a written request for the release entry, custody-event log, and destination.
- Search Case.net by case number when possible, narrowed to Adair County or the Second Judicial Circuit.
- Check Missouri VINELink for a matching local custody event and treat a notice as a prompt to verify.
- Use MODOC, BOP, or ICE only when the judgment, release record, or another sound source points there.
The released-last-24-hours path is covered on Adair County Released Last 24 Hours, while this home search handles a named person and the complete records path. For state incarceration, the MODOC record is distinct from the county booking. A person delivered to a state institution is no longer in Adair detention but is not yet released from custody.
Adair Release Search Through MODOC
The MODOC Offender Web Search covers people who are currently incarcerated or actively supervised by Missouri corrections. It is not the archive for a short Adair County jail stay that never became a state case. Search by DOC number when known. A name search requires extra care with middle names, birth details, offenses, and assigned location.
| Search item | How to read it |
|---|---|
| DOC number | The strongest public identifier for a state corrections match. |
| Name | Compare all available identity facts before accepting a match. |
| Assigned place | An institution means prison custody; a field office indicates community supervision. |
| Offense and sentence | Review every displayed case, not just the first row. |
| Date label | Keep the exact label. Minimum, maximum, conditional, and presumptive dates have different meanings. |
A fully discharged person may not appear in the active search. MODOC's nightly Sunshine Law file includes people who are or have been under department supervision, with data documented as early as 1974. It can contain multiple charge-level rows for one person. Sentence-completed status on one row does not prove that all sentences and supervision have ended.
The official MODOC search interface shown below is linked from its public offender search.
The interface is the correct state route when an Adair County case led to MODOC custody or supervision.
Adair Release Records Across Courts
Adair state cases, Kirksville ordinance cases, and juvenile matters use different access paths. The Adair County Circuit Court page links to Case.net for state cases. Municipal matters may sit in the city-court track. Juvenile records are generally confidential, and adult search instructions should not be applied to the Bruce Normile Juvenile Justice Center.
Case.net name search can omit protected parties. Dismissed criminal cases, successful suspended-imposition-of-sentence completions, and expunged cases can also have restricted access. A missing docket therefore does not affirm a release and does not erase the need to identify the correct jurisdiction. When available, a case number is more reliable than name alone.
The court record explains the legal event but may not show the exact time jail staff completed release processing. Use it with the Adair custody record. The two records should agree on the underlying case even when their timestamps or wording serve different purposes.
Expunged Adair Release Records
Missouri section 610.140 generally measures eligibility from completion of the authorized disposition. The current framework includes three years for an eligible felony and one year for an eligible misdemeanor, municipal offense, or infraction, subject to conditions and exclusions. Certain arrests that did not lead to charges have a separate route after eighteen months.
A valid order closes records held by the named entities after it is served. It does not mean the underlying custody event never occurred, and it may not reach an unnamed custodian. Sealed, confidential, expunged, and missing are not interchangeable terms. A restricted search result should be described only as unavailable through that public path.
Adair Release Commissary Refund
Adair County publishes a concrete step for unused detainee commissary funds after release. The sheriff's commissary page directs a released detainee to the receptionist's lobby window with photo identification. It lists weekday service from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Current sheriff contact and records pages list administrative hours ending at 4 p.m. That one-hour conflict should not be smoothed over. Call (660) 665-4644 before arriving after 4 p.m. The refund instruction does not establish which door is used for physical release or when a detainee will leave custody.
Note: The detention control room operates continuously, but that does not make the records desk or refund window a round-the-clock service.
Getting Home After Adair Release
Kirk-Tran is Kirksville's public transit system. Its city page describes demand-response service scheduled through 1-800-654-6287, operating on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The listed one-way fare is $3 in the city and $4 within a 15-mile radius. Recheck the hours, fare, and requested pickup before relying on the trip.
A downtown fixed-route stop is geographically near the Franklin Street jail, but the transit provider does not identify it as a jail-release pickup point. Kirk-Tran is a possible transportation option, not a sheriff promise. Advance scheduling matters, especially when a release time is uncertain.
Compare Adair Release Systems
Each search system has a defined scope. Checking all of them without a case-based reason can create false matches. Follow the custody trail instead.
| System | Useful for | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Adair sheriff record | County booking, release time, and destination | No verified public online release feed |
| Case.net | Bond, disposition, sentence, probation, and commitment | Not the jail's processing log |
| MODOC | State incarceration or active supervision | Active search excludes fully discharged cases |
| MOVANS/VINELink | Local custody and court status alerts | A notice still needs agency confirmation |
| BOP locator | Federal custody and BOP release status | Does not resolve state or local custody |
| ICE locator | Qualifying immigration custody and recent ICE release | Not a general Adair release database |
For federal cases, the BOP Inmate Locator may show “Released,” a release date, or “Not in BOP custody.” The last phrase does not always mean unrestricted community release. The ICE Online Detainee Locator is relevant only when case facts support immigration custody. Missouri MOVANS does not cover BOP, ICE, or U.S. Marshals custody.
Missouri's 2026 MOVANS change left local jail and court registration on the VINELink/MOVANS path while ending telephone-call and mobile-app notices. Current delivery uses SMS or email. MODOC custody notifications use the Office of Victim Services instead. In every channel, an alert is a timely lead rather than the final Adair County release record.
Adair County Release Facilities
These six facilities and systems serve different parts of the Adair County release trail. The detention center holds adult county detainees. The juvenile center uses protected court channels. MODOC institutions and District 3S handle state custody or supervision. BOP and ICE are federal destination systems rather than local Adair buildings.
- Adair County Detention Center: confirm community release or transfer through the sheriff record and court docket.
- Bruce Normile Juvenile Justice Center Secure Detention Unit: route case-specific questions through juvenile court channels.
- Missouri Department of Corrections institutions statewide: check state custody, parole, conditional release, or historical data.
- MODOC Division of Probation and Parole, District 3S–Kirksville: verify active community supervision.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system: use the federal locator for a supported federal case.
- Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention system: use the ICE locator only when immigration custody is indicated.
